Now as loyal readers know, one thing I’m all about is the overly lavish and the ridiculously extravagant. Let’s face it. I wouldn’t be writing for Exec Digital if I weren’t. That being said, what I’m about to present is probably the best thing I’ve ever seen.
Picture the most basic car on the road right now. You’ll most likely think of the Tata Nano, an automobile produced by Tata Motors in India since 2008. Now, take that car, and picture it covered completely in gold and jewels. That’s not a typo, and I’m not kidding at all.
To celebrate 5,000 years of Indian jewelry, Tata Motors has collaborated with subsidiary Titan Industries to create a solid gold Nano lined with rare Indian diamonds and other jewels for a truly one-of-a-kind method of transportation. I’m not suggesting you actually drive something like this to the local grocery store (especially not in the kind of neighborhood I grew up in), but if I know my readers as I think I do, this is something worth keeping in the garage.
In order to get the kind of support needed for such a rare collector’s item, Tata and Titan enlisted the help of people’s own ideas. Thirteen concepts of the solid gold Nano were submitted to the company, and the winning design was picked a few days ago. The
gold Nano will be constructed at Titan’s facility in Bagalore.
Auto companies have developed concepts that serve as tributes to certain anniversaries, lately. If you recall, Lamborghini is planning on a three-tone Gallardo to celebrate the unification of Italy.
Of course, the Gallardo may not cost as much as the solid gold Tata Nano -- or maybe it will -- but either are worth the extra couple hundred thousand dollars if you have it laying around.
